Schomp Celebrity Interview:
James Kurtenbach

What were you like in High School?

Probably can be summed up with one word – awkward. I was super competitive in sports and really did not care much about anything else besides that. It served me well in the scope of competing, but I had to develop a lot of social skills later in life.

Favorite movie and why?

The Sandlot. It’s the childhood every boy should have.

If you could describe yourself in a song what would it be?

Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked – Cage the Elephant.

If you could have drinks with anyone famous (alive or dead) who would it be?

Arnold Palmer – Apparently one of his famous quotes is that he is glad twitter was not around when he was on tour.

After a long, difficult day what is your go-to comfort food?

I have been known to crush thin mints at an embarrassing level.

What’s the most embarrassing trend you participated in?

I was a big fan of Andre Agassi when I was a kid, so as any respectable fan would do – I donned an impressive rat-tail type hair apparatus. It was a moment that I don’t look back in shame, more of an impressive statement of fandom.

What have you accomplished in the past year that you’re most proud of?

I think I have grown more in my faith, become more self-aware of what makes me happy, what really does not matter to me at the end of the day. Having my accomplishments not be material has been a big accomplishment.

If you could be saved by any superhero, who would you choose?

Captain Marvel!

Your best advice for someone starting out in our industry?

You really have to enjoy the process, and the people. It’s pretty amazing the amount of diversity we have and so many skilled people that work for one organization that have such a different focus in their position. If you want to serve the customers the best, you need to really make an effort to know each respective piece of the business, and the unique people within them.

If you were stranded on a desert island for 30 days who would you choose to be stranded with (excluding family members) and why?

Donald Ross – Need him to design a golf course on this desert island, and he is a good player too.

Tiger Woods – Need the best to compete with

Arnold Palmer – I mean, the guy has a drink named after him

David Feherty – Great golfer, but most importantly he would keep us laughing
